rewarding.

one of my clients yesterday spoke to the 1st shift staff member about how she liked the staff here. she said something along the lines of "C you are my #1 and Lisa is my #2. I can tell the two of you like what you do and care about us." when i was told this, it immediately struck me. this job, this field of human services is so incredibly rewarding. it is not about the paycheck or getting time off to go on a vacation, it is about making a difference in someone's life and helping them achieve goals..

i was reminded of this last friday. my client is terrified of getting into a car because a few years ago he was in a car accident with another staff member. i was going out to get myself a coffee and he asked me to buy him soda (to these folks, soda is like gold. you have no idea.) I responded with "no, you know staff will not go get you soda even with your own money. however, you can take a ride with me and i will drive you to get some." he first said "no, i will wait til tomorrow" then something clicked. he said "ok i will go with you." he put on his shoes and we headed for my car. he asked if he could ride in the backseat. i said "of course". i told him i would go slower than the speed limit and even put his favorite station on my radio. he got his soda and we returned to the house. i told him how proud i was of him that he conquered his fear of riding in a car...

it is those small things that make me appreciate my job and the people that i serve...

just a thought i wanted to share.
